of the 2008 National Council of Churches Outdoor Ministries
curriculum "Handle With Care". These materials provide a
wonderful, flexible, 6 day program and schedule for the camp setting
focusing specifically on care of God's creation. In addition to
daily themes and activities "Handle With Care" includes a
theme-specific chapter written by the Eco-Justice Ministry at the
National Council of Churches. "Greening for Outdoor Ministry
Facilities" provides lots of practical ideas about how to "green"
your current site and facilities, how to plan for more efficient
facilities as you build new, and how to bring a culture of
sustainability into your program every year. All UCC outdoor ministry sites should have received a brochure about this resource in late August or Early September. You can purchase this curriculum at the United Church Press. A sample of this resource is available here. These program materials are provided in a 3 ring binder format and on a CD with permission to edit and copy as needed for all programs on one single camp site, so there is no additional expense beyond any photocopy or CD duplication costs. In the case where there are two or more camps in one conference they are required to buy one curriculum set per site -- but then they can copy as much as needed to support the program at that site. There are precious few curricula available specific to the outdoor ministry experience. "Handle With Care" fills a unique need in the Christian education mission of the church as it takes form at outdoor ministry programs across the United States and Canada. |
