A Time of Transition in North Carolina

Curly Stumb has been a big part of our OMA family for a very long time. Over the years he has gifted us with his beautiful photography, capturing special moments and sacred places. His love of God’s creation and his desire to explore and experience the great outdoors has encouraged us to look at nature in a new way. His passion for safe camps has prompted many of us to explore becoming accredited by the American Camp Association. Now, after 31 years of serving Johns River Valley Camp, Curly is retiring from outdoor ministry and beginning a new leg of his journey. Thank you, Curly, for your years of faithful ministry. We look forward to hearing stories of times spent with family and how those projects that have been waiting for you turn out.

Blowing Rock Conference Center, which is right up the mountain from Johns River Valley Camp, installed Ted Wilson as the next Executive Director on November 18th. Ted has been a part of Blowing Rock since 2008, serving as the Assistant Director. Ted holds a B.A. in Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education from Brevard College, and a graduate certification in Camp and Retreat Ministries from Drew University. His education, along with years of working closely with Bill Bourdon, former Blowing Rock Executive Director, have prepared Ted to be a great blessing and leader for Blowing Rock. According to Ted, “We have a beautifully scenic location that lifts and inspires all who come here. My role is to oversee the behind the scenes work that lets those mountaintop experiences happen.” Congratulations, Ted!
